Mackay Base Hospital expansion

The Health Care and Social Assistance sector is the largest employing industry in the Mackay region, employing 15.3 per cent of the local workforce and disbursing $715 million in wages. Employing more than 3000 staff, Mackay Hospital and Health Services provides extensive health services across eight major facilities.
The Queensland Government is investing $250 million to expand the hospital’s capacity by an extra 128 beds to meet rising demand for healthcare of a growing community. A major project for the region, the expansion will create 600 new jobs during construction phase.
Great Barrier Reef Arena - Stage 2
Stage 2 of the Great Barrier Reef Arena will deliver a major expansion, transforming it into a premier regional sports and community precinct. The project will boost the region's events capacity, drive tourism and visitor spend, and create construction and ongoing operational jobs for Mackay. Backed by strong regional demand and aligned with Council's Advocacy Priorities and the Mackay Region Economic Development Strategy, Stage 2 positions Mackay as a leading destination for sport, recreation, and major events in Northern Australia.
